Jonathan Pernell, DVM
Dr. Pernell is a native of Western North Carolina and has lived here most of his life. He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and minored in Chemistry. He went on to obtain his Veterinary Medical Degree from Mississippi State University, where he graduated with honors. Since graduating vet school, Dr. Pernell served several years on the Henderson County animal advisory committe, making recommendations for the shelter and for county ordinances, and he served on the REACH (emergency hospital in Asheville) managing board for several years before it became privately owned. Dr. Pernell is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Feline Practioners. He has worked closely with Community Partnership for Pets, Blue Ridge Humane Society, and the Henderson County shelter to aid sick pets that need adoption. In 2007, Dr. Pernell joined with Dr. Zehr to purchase Laurel Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Pernell later purchased his partner's shares to become the sole owner of Laurel Park Animal Hospital. He has special clinical interests in ophthalmology, cardiology, and dermatology in dogs and cats. Dr. Pernell is married- he and his wife, Michelle, live in Hendersonville with their children, two dogs, and one fish. Dr. Pernell also enjoys attempting to play golf, any type of fishing, and spending time at the beach with his family.
Lil Herron, DVM
Dr. Herron has a combined experience of 23 years. She was a certified veterinary technician and ultimately decided to earn her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University in 2008. Dr. Herron lives in Hendersonville with her dog Page Turner. She specializes in emergency medicine, specialty care, palliative, and hospice veterinary care.
Brittany- Client Relations
Brittany has been working as a veterinary receptionist for about 10 years. She lives with her husband, Daniel and her three children, Kayleigh (5 years), Caleb (4 years), Kinsley (2 years) and a golden retriever named Duke. Brittany spends her free time with her family.
Loretta- Client Relations
Loretta studied at Blue Ridge Community College and received an office-administration/ medical office diploma. Loretta is a mother of two boys, Nicholas and Bentley. She has three dogs, Duke, Sadie and Black Shadow, and two cats, Chester and Gabriel. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family.
Choena- Registered Veterinary Technician
Choena is a native to the mountains of WNC. She became a registered veterinary technician in 2014, and joined our team in 2015. She has special interests in animal behavior and nutrition. She lives with her husband, Patrick, and their daughter, Astoria. They have 5 dogs: Sequoya, Dray, Snoopy, Ginger, and Butters, a cat named Teyla, and a snake named Slimer.
Tammy- Veterinary Technician
Tammy grew up in Clearwater, FL. She is recently graduated with her A.S. in Veterinary Technology. She joined our team in 2013. Her special interests include dentistry and critical care medicine. Tammy lives with her husband, RJ, 3 dogs, Porter, Lily and Bella and 2 cats, Bean and Carlin. While not in the office, she enjoys nature walks/ hiking, antiquing, photography and spending time with her husband.
Reka- Veterinary Technician
Reka grew up in Hungary and moved to the Untied States in 2007. She has been with our practice since July, 2015. Her favorite part about work are surgeries and puppy examinations. She has two cats, Amycus and Miko, and a rescued pup named Vincent. In her free time, she enjoys exploring and hiking around the Blue Ridge Parkway with her friends and Vincent.
Kolter- Veterinary Assistant
Kolter is native to Asheville, NC. She is currently working part time at Laurel Park, while pursuing a degree in Emergency Medical Services. Kolter has 2 Border Collies, Risky and Sizzle, a cat named Purrrfect, and a goat named Maple. On the weekends, she enjoys being outdoors and hiking with her dogs.
Joey is a Labradoodle (half labrador retriever, half poodle). He loves long car rides with the windows down, eating treats and getting belly rubs. Joey lives with Dr. Pernell, and can be seen in the office daily. He is always available to donate blood when needed.
Oscar is our office cat. He enjoys sleeping in boxes and pats on the head. He is able to donate blood, if needed.
